Topic: Reading. Reaching decisons in a meeting
Aim: to develop students’ reading skills and their ability to understand how decisions are made during meetings, as well as to expand vocabulary related to discussion, negotiation, and agreement.
Methodical recommendations:
- Pre-teach key vocabulary related to meetings and decision-making.
- Use pre-reading questions to activate background knowledge.
- Apply different reading strategies (skimming for general idea, scanning for specific information).
- Include comprehension tasks (true/false, multiple choice, matching).
- Organize follow-up speaking activities (role-play a meeting, discuss how the decision was made).
- Provide feedback on vocabulary use and understanding of the texts.
Procedure:
Be ready with the Assignments 1-6 on pages 40-41. This time you do not have to listen to the audio files/ Just read the audioscripts below.
Materials required for сompleting the tasks
Form of presenting results on performed activities: written tasks are delivered by electronic files for further assessment.
Assessment criteria: 5 points
5 points – all written tasks are performed correctly, minor spelling mistakes are allowed, a student actively fulfills tasks in the class.
4 points – 80 – 90 percent of written tasks are performed correctly, 20 percent of spelling and grammar mistakes are allowed, a student actively fulfills tasks in the class.
3 points – 50 percent of written tasks are performed correctly, 30 – 40 percent of spelling and grammar mistakes are allowed, a student actively fulfills tasks in the class.
2 points – 30 percent of written tasks are performed correctly, 50 percent of spelling and grammar mistakes are allowed, a student actively fulfills tasks in the class.
1 point – 10 percent of written tasks are performed correctly, 60 percent of spelling and grammar mistakes are allowed, a student actively fulfills tasks in the class.
