Practical class № 7. One dark October evening
Topic: Grammar: time sequencers and connectors. Vocabulary: verb phrases. Pronounciation: word stress.
Aim: To develop students’ ability to use time sequencers and connectors for organizing speech and writing; to enrich vocabulary with common verb phrases; to practice correct placement of word stress.
Methods:
- Presentation and explanation of common time sequencers (e.g., first, then, after that, finally) and connectors.
- Guided exercises for building sentences and short narratives using sequencers.
- Vocabulary practice with verb phrases in meaningful contexts.
- Pair and group work for creating and retelling stories using sequencers and connectors.
- Pronunciation activities focusing on correct word stress in multi-syllable words.
- Communicative tasks (storytelling, interviews, mini-presentations) to integrate grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.
Procedure:
Task 1. Be ready with the Grammar tasks (a, b, c).
Task 2. Do the Pronounciation tasks (a, b).
Task 3. Do the Vocabulary assignments (a, b, c).
Materials required for сompleting the tasks
Form of presenting results on performed activities: written tasks are delivered by electronic files for further assessment.
Assessment criteria: 5 points
5 points – all written tasks are performed correctly, minor spelling mistakes are allowed, a student actively fulfills tasks in the class.
4 points – 80 – 90 percent of written tasks are performed correctly, 20 percent of spelling and grammar mistakes are allowed, a student actively fulfills tasks in the class.
3 points – 50 percent of written tasks are performed correctly, 30 – 40 percent of spelling and grammar mistakes are allowed, a student actively fulfills tasks in the class.
2 points – 30 percent of written tasks are performed correctly, 50 percent of spelling and grammar mistakes are allowed, a student actively fulfills tasks in the class.
1 point – 10 percent of written tasks are performed correctly, 60 percent of spelling and grammar mistakes are allowed, a student actively fulfills tasks in the class.
