Welcome Aboard: Navigating the Airport ✈️
Phase 1: Departure (Leaving on a Journey)
Before you can fly, you have to navigate the terminal. Here is the typical flow:
- The Departures Board: Upon arrival, check this board for your flight number (e.g., BA735), departure time, and destination.
- The Check-in Desk: An agent will check your ticket and weigh your luggage.
- Note: If your bags weigh more than the limit (e.g., 20kg), you must pay excess baggage fees.
- Luggage Types:
- Suitcase/Luggage: Larger items checked into the plane's hold.
- Hand Luggage: Small bags you carry onto the aircraft.
- Trolley: Used to transport heavy bags through the terminal.
- Security & Beyond: * You receive a boarding card, which is the paper required to get on the plane.
- Passport Control: An official carefully checks your passport.
- Departure Lounge: A waiting area where you can visit the duty-free shop to buy tax-free items like perfume or cigarettes.
Phase 2: Boarding & Take-off 🛫
- The Gate: Shortly before take-off, go to your designated gate (e.g., Gate 3) to board (get on) the plane.
- On the Aircraft:
- Store hand luggage in the overhead locker (the cupboard above your seat).
- Fasten your seat belt as instructed by the cabin crew.
- Leaving the Ground: If there are no delays (unexpected waits), the plane moves to the runway and takes off.
Phase 3: Arrival (Reaching your Destination)
- Landing: When the plane lands (arrives on the ground), the cabin crew will make an announcement with instructions.
- Exiting: Passengers get off the plane and walk through the terminal building.
- Retrieving Belongings:
- Baggage Reclaim: The area where you collect your checked suitcases.
- Customs: The final checkpoint where luggage may be checked for illegal items before you leave the airport.
